The Grupo Ginástico Unicamp (GGU - Unicamp’s Gymnastics Group) was established in 1989 as a teaching, research and continuing education project of the Physical Education Faculty at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil.

It is mainly composed of Physical Education students and teachers, whose goals are the practice of General Gymnastics and the dissemination of the group’s pedagogical approach in formal and informal education settings, as well as for people in general.

Through choreographs, courses, workshops and lectures, GGU aims at disseminating the work developed by the General Gymnastics Research Group of the Physical Education Faculty at Unicamp. It is also intended to be a think tank for teachers and practitioners in this field.

Its choreographs show the diversity of General Gymnastics, fostering participation, inclusion and non-competitive practice of Gymnastics. They add elements of dance, theatre, circus and other cultural manifestations, in a spectacle full of expression, art and creativity.

Some key elements of this proposal are the use of non-traditional Gymnastics apparatus, promotion of creativity, interaction among participants, respect for one’s individuality, appreciation of culture and human values.

The Grupo Ginástico Unicamp has spread its proposal of General Gymnastics in Brazil and several other countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Portugal. It has become a national and international benchmark, as well as a reference in the education of professionals and the production of knowledge in this field.
